Cape Tribulation & Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest rainforest in the world, and is about 3 hours north of Cairns. I went on a day trip from Cairns - the whole area is famous for where the rainforest meets the great barrier reef. We explored some of the rainforest, stopped off at lots of lookouts with amazing views and went on a river cruise, where we saw a croc in the wild!

The Great Barrier Reef

I spent my birthday snorkelling and sailing on the Great Barrier Reef - something I don't think I'll be saying again for a while! It was a fantastic day, which made up for the bad weather I had sailing in the Whitsundays, the previous week. I saw lots of coral and tropical fish, but unfortunately no turtles or sharks.

Back in Cairns for the evening, I had a great night out with everyone I have met so far on the bus - cheers everyone!

Magnetic Island & Crocodile Farm

After two days of constant rain, I am pleased to say that the cyclone has now broken up and I saw some sunshine during my last day on Magnetic Island. We had a really wet full moon party though, and all power and telephones were cut off the next morning.

On the bus trip from Magnetic Island to Cairns we stopped at a crocodile farm and watched them feed the enormous crocs - rather them than me, although the small one wasn't so bad (and yes, it is a real one in the photo!)

A couple of pictures from my sailing trip...unfortunately I am in the tail end of a cyclone at the moment, so it was very very wet for my trip.

So the next stop on my journey north was Kroombit Cattle Station. It was just one overnight stop, but there were loads of cool things to do. First of all I went quad biking for nearly 2 hours around the farm (Australian farms are HUGE!). Then we had a go at clay pigeon shooting (I got 4/6!) and a goat rodeo - in teams of three we had to lasso and catch a goat! Lastly we also learnt how to crack a whip! I had some great local steak and roast beef while we were there too.
