I went for an awesome 20min microlite flight over Hervey Bay and overlooking Fraser Island. The views were so cool and I even got to fly for a few minutes!

Fraser Island

My latest trip was to Fraser Island - the world's largest sand island. We hired 4x4s and spent 3 days exploring. We were only able to drive on the beaches at low tides, so there were early starts every day. We were also sharing the beach with airplanes that use it as a landing strip! It was great driving the 4x4, both on the beaches and on inland island tracks.

We also found out that a group of backpackers had crashed their 4x4 the previous week whilst drunk-driving. Therefore the police were carrying out spot checks while we were there. It was my turn behind the wheel for our check and I'm pleased to say that I passed my first breath test.

A few photos are below - the first was a group of thousands of bats that fly over the hostel every evening - amazing!

Here are a couple of pictures of Byron Bay - the famous beach, then the sunset taken from Cape Byron. Had a fantastic time here, it is such a chilled out place. Had an great night in Cheeky Monkeys (one of the cheesiest backpacker bars in Byron!) and an awesome beach barbeque.

Next stop will be Surfer's Paradise then Noosa...

After a brief stop in Sydney on my way back out, I am now travelling up the east coast of Australia with my hop-on hop-off bus ticket. First stop was some surf lessons at Surf Camp, north of Sydney. It was great fun and yes, I did manage to stand up!

We stayed at a campsite in the middle of nowhere, right on the beach. It was nice and chilled out - check out the pictures of our teepee village below!

Sydney

Firstly I spent a day in the Blue Mountains, just outside Sydney. This area has some really spectacular scenery and we also saw an Australian Brown Snake in the wild - one of the most deadly snakes in Australia! Back in Sydney, the highlight was definately the harbour bridge climb. I spent three and a half hours climbing the bridge, going right along the top of the arch to the summit. We then had half an hour at the top before the climb back down again.

I also went to Bondi Beach for the day - it was perhaps slightly better than the beaches in Cornwall (but only just!), although the weather was in a different league! It was also smaller than I expected and can't believe 35,000 people can visit on a busy day.

There are some good bars in Sydney, but also some great all-you-can-eat buffets. Some as cheap as £1.75!

Here are a few photos of the Blue Mountains, Sydney and Bondi...
